Time-lapse Tutorial – Snow Leopard

July 31st, 2010 Greg Loesch 1 comment

I just purchased my first DSLR camera this summer (Nikon D5000) and have been messing around with time-lapse videos. Final Cut Express and iMovie were obvious options to create the video… but I didn’t want to mess with Final Cut for such a simple task (plus that’s not free). Most of the suggestions I came across on the internet said to use Quicktime Player, but I got a bit confused as the new version of Quicktime Player (Quicktime Player X) included with Snow Leopard (stupidly) doesn’t have the ability to create time lapse videos. However, Quicktime Player 7 (the old version that has the ability to do so), is most likely still installed on your computer. Way to make things confusing, Apple. Anywhooo … here’s the process of creating a time lapse video from stills using Quicktime (free) in Snow Leopard: Read more…

Free Year of Amazon Prime for Students!

I just wanted to make a quick post sharing the good news. If you’re a student with a .edu email address, you’re eligible for a free year of Amazon Prime! I just signed up, and the process was very quick. I don’t think any strings are attached… just to be safe you might set up a reminder in your calendar a year from now to check and make sure there is no auto-renewal.

For those of you who like to buy books online instead of in overpriced college bookstores, make sure you take advantage of this. Free 2-day shipping and more? Heck ya. Keep in mind that this won’t include all 3rd party sellers that just post on Amazon. Hard to beat free, though. Enjoy!

Good News! Google Voice Invites for Students

May 15th, 2010 Greg Loesch No comments

Not too long ago, Google introduced a pretty neat phone/voicemail service called Google Voice. Signing up for the service provides you with a single phone number that can be linked to multiple phones (home, cell, work), allows for free text messaging, provides discounted long-distance calls, offers voicemail transcriptions (as text messages), and so much more… all for the wonderful price of FREE. I don’t utilize all the features, but I do like the option of managing voicemail online.

Google Voice is still in beta, and invitations have become a bit difficult inconvenient to come by as of late. I have seen/received several comments saying that invites were not being sent out as frequently by Google. However, good news has arrived! Google just announced yesterday that they are rolling out invites for all students! Read more…

Gordon Gee and Glee!

May 4th, 2010 Greg Loesch 1 comment

Some fellow students of mine at the Ohio State University participated in a “flash mob” the other day at the Ohio Union, our new student union. I missed this by literally a few minutes. I went in to get tickets for something around 12:30pm. I thought there were an odd number of people just standing around doing “nothing.” Kinda disappointed I missed it.

FYI: The guy walking with Brutus near the end is Gordon Gee, our school president.

Check it out! (Note: To view higher quality, click the video to be transferred to YouTube.)
