Good News! Google Voice Invites for Students

May 15th, 2010 Greg Loesch No comments

Not too long ago, Google introduced a pretty neat phone/voicemail service called Google Voice. Signing up for the service provides you with a single phone number that can be linked to multiple phones (home, cell, work), allows for free text messaging, provides discounted long-distance calls, offers voicemail transcriptions (as text messages), and so much more… all for the wonderful price of FREE. I don’t utilize all the features, but I do like the option of managing voicemail online.

Google Voice is still in beta, and invitations have become a bit difficult inconvenient to come by as of late. I have seen/received several comments saying that invites were not being sent out as frequently by Google. However, good news has arrived! Google just announced yesterday that they are rolling out invites for all students! Read more…

Free Google Wave Invites!

I was one of the fortunate individuals who received an early Google Voice invite. I honestly haven’t done a whole lot with it, mainly because I don’t know many people that have it… but I will say it’s pretty nifty nifty. In case you’re out of the loop, here’s a quick, concise video demonstrating Google Wave.

This is a test Google Wave post that does not look to be working… unless you actually have a Google Wave developer account.

Verizon & Google Voice

I’ve been using Google Voice for about a week now, and I thought I’d share a few things I’ve learned along the way, things related to using Google Voice with Verizon Wireless. I wanted and hadn’t seen any resources out there regarding the Verizon + Google Voice duo, so I figured I’d put one together. This is a compilation of various things I’ve found on the Google Voice forums and from other sites.

Overview (easy navigation):

-Calling – In or Out of Network?

-Contacts & New Phone Number Issues

-Texting

-Voicemail and Using Google Voice Without Changing Your Number

For those of you who haven’t heard, Google has released a (free) phone management system called Google Voice. This is currently open by invitation only. Sign up here if you’re interested. Google Voice allows you to have all of your phones ring, during the times you’ve set, when somebody calls your Google Voice number… and a lot more. Opposed to rattling off all the GV features, I’ll let you check out the video Google has posted (see below). It gives you a pretty good overview.
