MacHeist = Bad (For Developers)???

March 27th, 2009 Greg Loesch No comments

Apparently there are some people out there who think the latest MacHeist bundle is more or less an insult to the developers who allowed their software to be included in the bundle. Their argument is that we (those deciding to participate in the MacHeist bundler) are greatly devaluing the hard work that was put into creating/coding the software.

Initially his does makes sense… I mean come on. Kinemac costs $299 alone! I’m getting it AND 11+ other apps for only $39?! BoinxTV (may be) included, too? That costs $199! Gees, way to show appreciation to programmers… and to think I might be one…

This is hardly the case. Read more…

MacHeist III Bundle – Several Sweet Apps for only $40!

MacHeist III Bundle

MH3 - Bundle

Good old MacHeist just released it’s third App Bundle! Woohoo!

This is a pretty good bundle, I must say. WireTap Studio is alone worth the price ($70 retail). It lets you record any audio that’s playing on your Mac to an audio file. I recently purchased this earlier this year… haven’t regretted it at all. It’s not unlocked yet in the bundle, but I guarantee it will be soon.

For those of you interested, I’d be grateful if you’d purchase the $40 bundle through this link –> http://www.macheist.com/bundle/u/94351/. If you’re just checking out the applications, you can look via that link, too.

I get some extra software if you buy through that link that I listed above… I really do think it’s a great deal… I’m not just trying to get more software. I promise :)

Jack Johnson Songs – Apple Event September 9th

September 12th, 2008 Greg Loesch 4 comments

Jack Johnson as the "Let's Rock" Apple Event

This weeks Apple Event, Let’s Rock, was one that really didn’t offer anything terribly surprising. Thanks to inside source leaks (I tend to think it was planned) and the wildfire tendencies of the internet and social networking, most of Apple’s unveilings were already expected. Heck, with all the rumors flying around, this was slightly disappointing.

That being said, I am happy to see updates for the iPod line. I’m definitely a fan of the new Nanos (the colors make my mouth water a little bit), I’m happy to see the price drop in the Touch – as little as it was (I want one… bad…), and I’m pleased with the new iTunes Genius feature. I was also really pleased with their guest musician  , which is really what this post is all about.

Yazsoft *finally* pulls through for us MacHeisters

March 14th, 2008 Greg Loesch No comments

For those of you who are left out in the cold, I wrote about a controversial business/marketing “stunt” that a software company, Yazsoft (creators of Speed Download app), pulled on all participants of a widely known Mac software distributor, MacHeist. A major PAID Speed Download upgrade was released soon after the MacHeist ended, and it caused an uproar.

Neither MacHeist nor Yazsoft would back down, and all participants of the software bundle were left wondering what was to happen next. (If you’re interested in reading more, check out my blog entry here). Well… now we can put all of this behind us.

MacHeist + Yazsoft’s Speed Download 5 = Intense Feelings of Hate

Before you write this post off as a tech rambling, give it a shot. This post is not so much about computers and related but about a battle between two businesses, marketing, customer satisfaction, and arguably ethics.

Let me tell you a little about what’s going on in this current business “affair.”

Back in January, MacHeist, an online company, offered one of their software bundles for $50. This package contained multiple well-known Mac applications that in and of themselves cost over the price of the package. These applications were promised to be full versions, as if we had directly purchased from the company who made each individual application. Read more…
