Macbook Pro Hard-drive Upgrade – Part 1
By greg | September 8, 2008
Today I received my new 2.5″ Seagate Momentus 250GB 7200RPM internal hard drive via UPS from OWC-Mac Sales, and I’m prepping to make a hard-drive upgrade on my Macbook Pro.

Tools for the job
I currently have a 120GB 5400RPM drive that just isn’t quite enough space for me. I never thought I’d have issues running out of room, but I have. With my extensive iTunes library (all legal purchases, I’m proud to say
), decent sized iPhoto library, and Boot Camp partition, my drive is down to less than 10 GB. This is still a good deal of space left, but a lot of times, especially with large downloads and when working with video files, you need a good amount of “swap space.” I ran into a few problems a few times.
I was sick of having to monitor all of my podcasts and video projects so closely, and I also wanted to have the ability to save DVD’s to my local hard drive. I often times rent movies, don’t get around to watching them, so I like to upload them on my computer and delete them when I finish watching them (it’s totally legal as long as you delete it I”m told…). I also have some home DVD’s that would be nice to have without carrying my CD wallet around. I also have to be prepared just in case iTunes 8.0 does have a music subscription plan
I’ll be posting the whole process I went through once I successfully complete the upgrade. If I don’t ever post anything… that probably means I made an “whoopsies.” Let’s pray that doesn’t happen… no seriously. I’ll hopefully be back up and running soon. It’s time to run SuperDuper! one last time. Catch you on the flip-side!
