DropBox Beta – Advanced File Sharing/Syncing

    File Sharing with Ease

I received an email the other day giving me a chance to take part in the new beta program called DropBox. This program more or less offers you free file syncing over the internet between multiple computers and even across platforms (Mac and Windows unite!). It also gives you, in a way, 2 GB of free online backup space! WOOHOO!

The installation was a breeze on my Mac, and I imagine the same can be said for a PC (though I say nothing about Vista…). I honestly haven’t gotten a chance to really test it out myself, but I’ve heard nothing but good things about DropBox. It’s perfect for those with multiple computers (at work or at home) and for those of you that may need to send relatively large project files back and forth.

Opposed to typing out a more lengthy description of something that’s already been explained in pretty good detail, I’ll just send you to the screen-cast that DropBox produced themselves. Click here to go to their homepage which contains a short but quite informative video. It explains pretty much everything you need to know about DropBox. If by any chance you’re having trouble finding the video even after clicking the link, make sure you’re not logged in to the site (click “logout” at the top right).

To give you a personal example of its usefulness, I had a folder full of pictures (total of about 500 MB) that I wanted to send to a friend. A lot of emails won’t allow attachments that are that big, so I simply dropped the folder in my Public Dropbox, right-clicked the folder, copied the link, and emailed the link to my friend. With minimal effort, I was able to share the large folder with my friend. Now how sweet is that?

If I’m not mistaken, DropBox Beta is invitation only. I know there’s a spot on the site to sign up, but I’m honestly not sure how long it’ll take for them to respond with your beta code. I don’t even remember when I signed up for this beta… if ever, and I just received it a couple days ago. Though they may just hate me… who knows. I still have 5 or so 2 Beta invitations that I’m willing to send out, so if you’re interested, leave me a comment below or shoot me an email.

You can sign up anytime for free now, but if you’d be so kind as to use my referral, that’d be great! Just click here -> DropBox Signup
